ABOUT HURyCAN

Founded in 2013, HURyCAN is a performing arts project that claims the communicative necessity of movement, exploring its limits, its personal and emotional dimensions. The work exposes a physical and sensible experience through both naive and transgressive games. Like the dynamical balance of a dance, open to imagination, humor and emotions. Arthur Bernard Bazin and Candelaria Antelo started a common research in 2010, later, their creations have been awarded on several occasions, in Spain, France, Germany, Cuba, and they have been performing around the five continents. Today, the company is operating as a platform, where both choreographers can develop their own work together and with independence.

Candelaria Antelo (Artistic Director & Choreographer):

Candelaria Antelo, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she began her contemporary dance training. In 2004 she moved to England and graduated at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. In 2007 she traveled to Spain and worked as a dancer with choreographers/companies such as Derida Dance, Dani Pannullo Dance Theater, Cia Mey-Ling Bisogno, and Lucio Baglivo LAB. In 2010 she joined the choreographic line at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza de Madrid (María de Ávila), where she graduated in June 2013. In parallel, she has been developing constant research alongside Arthur Bernard-Bazin and together they build their own company HURyCAN. Their works "Te odiero", "Je te haime" and "ASUELTO '' have been awarded by several choreographic prizes and programmed across the 5 continents. During the last years, Candelaria also led teaching activities exploring movements within academies, artistic companies, local and international festivals.

Arthur Bernard-Bazin (Artistic Director, Choreographer, and Performer):

Initiated to Drama in the outskirts of Paris, he then combined Theatre with Visual Arts and Juggling. In 2007 he moved to Madrid where he furthered his theatrical and physical studies within different classes and academies (like La Usina, the RESAD and the CSDMA). During this time, he collaborated with the emerging companies of Camille C. Hanson and Luz Arcas / La Phármaco. In 2011, he started an artistic collaboration with Sharon Fridman / Projects in Movement, as dancer and choreographic assistant, participating actively in the creation of several projects of the choreographer since then and until today. At the same time, born from a deep and continuous research started in 2010 alongside Candelaria Antelo, together they built and co-direct their own company : HURyCAN, whose works have been awarded by several choreographic prizes and programmed in theaters and festivals across the world. Arthur has also been leading many teaching activities and creative collaborations within local and international structures (academies, festivals and companies). Among other things: in 2016 he has been invited choreographer for T.H.E Dance Company (Singapore), in 2019-2020 he co-directed with Raúl Martínez the Maslenitsa project, for SUSS Dance Company (Moscow, Russia), and in 2022, he shared the creation of le last project of Grupo RES (Santa Fe, Argentina). Since 2021 he is also collaborating as a choreographic artist with the French company Le Grand Jeté!.

PRESS

“As in almost all relationships, there are moments of suffocation, of screaming, of understanding. And it is precisely this last verb that describes the perfect synchrony of this bi-national duo that left the audience stunned. "

(Mónica Briançon Messinger 2018)

“... And this is how you feel when something hurts, alive, and here so it is the dance, life in its purest form, reaching further, acting as a messenger of an alert call and awareness of one's own being. Living flesh artistic sublimation”.

(Andrés Collado, Platea Magazine, Sep. 2016)

“It is the art of showing the love encounter in its truest way, highs and lows, the search for the other and the thirst of love above all else. With disconcerting humility and naturalness, Te odiero brings us to our teenage loves, those that destroyed everything in their path. "
(Marylou Czaplicki, Le Journal de Saône-et-Loire, France 2016)

“Excellent work by HURyCAN, which aroused the audience with authentic laughter, smiles, surprise and fear. Forbidden to miss it next time, take note." (Irene fortea, October 2014)

"Beyond being a very fun show with an enormous amount of mime in the gestures, perfectly integrated into the choreography, it is a rounded piece that provides sensations divided between amazement, laughter and surprise..."
(La República Cultural.es, October 2014, Spain)
