In addition to presenting extraordinary existing works, Carmel Dance Festival commissions new works by emerging and established choreographers.

In the fall of 2021, Carmel Dance Festival commissioned Zurich-based choreographer Ihsan Rustem to make a work for our resident company, Ballare Carmel at Hidden Valley on Saturday, September 18th.

In the winter of 2022, Carmel Dance Festival commissioned Los Angeles -based choreographer James Gregg to make a new work for Ballare Carmel to Bach's masterpiece Chaconne, played by violinist Edwin Huizinga.
