Carmel Dance Festival's resident company, Ballare Carmel, has leaped into the forefront of the local arts scene.  Artistic Director Lillian Barbeito's local, professional dance ensemble is quickly becoming known for its extraordinary dancers and superb choreography that tells local stories, myths, and exploits through contemporary dance. Ballare Carmel will perform three world premieres by prominent choreographers; Brooklyn-based Jennifer Archibald with special guest Maddox Haberdasher, Zurich-based Ihsan Rustem with set design by Mark Baer, and Los Angeles-based James Gregg with live music by esteemed violinist Edwin Huizinga.

at Folktale Winery & Vineyards

Carmel Dance Festival's resident company, Ballare Carmel, performed an unforgettable immersive contemporary dance experience at Folktale Winery and Vineyards. Chicago-based choreographer Noelle Kayser's new piece inspired by the pioneering women writers of Carmel guided guests along the cobblestone pathway and secluded courtyard outside The Barrel Room, continued in The Rose Vineyard with the Santa Lucia Mountains as the backdrop, and culminated in The Vineyard House, a tucked-away luxurious villa.

Ballare Carmel FUNraiser    |   April 14, 2022

at Blue Fox Cellars

Carmel Dance Festival presented Ballare Carmel in an intimate evening of exquisite dance, live music, wine, and charcuterie. The much-talked-about dance company performed excerpts of IHSAN RUSTEM's "Just Don't End Up In The Pinecone, Honey," as well as a sneak peek at their newest piece by JAMES GREGG. Audience members met new company members and were treated to splendid live music by one of the most prolific violinists on the concert circuit, EDWIN HUIZINGA. Tickets for this special event at Blue Fox Cellars were  $100. Proceeds raised during the FUNdraiser helped support Ballare Carmel's efforts to premiere works complete with lighting, costume, and set design in the fall of 2022. Seating was limited and county Covid-19 guidelines were followed.

Embodiology® Showing    |   December   17, 2021

at Hidden Valley Music Seminars

 

Dr. S. Ama Wray's Embodiology® Immersion workshop was designed to culminate in a celebration of jazz music, improvisation,  and movement on Saturday, December 17th at 6:00 pm. The in-person workshop and showing were canceled    due to    Delta variants of the Covid-19   virus.  The    free showcase intended to be a  chance for people to witness and experience human connection through live music and dance.

Wisdom Project    |   November 20, 2021

at Hidden Valley Music Seminars

Carmel Dance Festival commissioned  Pina Bausch and Sasha Waltz muse Clementine Deluy to create a work on dance luminaries age 40 and better. The work was scheduled to be performed on one night only but was postponed due to   Delta Variants of the Covid-19    virus.  Please check back for new dates.

at Hidden Valley Music Seminars

Carmel Dance Festival's resident dance company, Ballare Carmel, launched with a silent auction and performance on Saturday, Septempter 18th in Carmel Valley Village. A preview of new work by Zurich-based choreographer IHSAN RUSTEM featuring world-class dancers. The Silent Auction started at 6:30 pm,  the doors opened at 7:00 pm, and the show began at 7:30 pm.
