About PARA.MAR Dance Theatre

PARA.MAR Dance Theater is a Chicago-based contemporary ballet company that was founded in 2020. In naming PARA.MAR Dance Theatre, founder and artistic director Stephanie Martinez attached her last name to Spanish prefix para, an ode to her individual identity and broader Mexican heritage. Para, meaning together, with, and for, stands to represent why and how the company exists and creates. Along with its goal of continuing innovation in dance as an essential mode of human expression, PARA.MAR finds its center in the unique identities of its artists and audiences, providing performances grounded in excellence and accessibility. PARA.MAR strives to be truly representative of the audiences it serves, focusing on equity in the curation of dance artists, dance makers, and the administrative team.
